Methomyl is a broad-spectrum insecticide that is used in agriculture to kill insects that interfere with crop production. China is a large producer of methomyl, and many countries around the world rely on China to obtain methomyl-based pesticides. In December 2019, China’s methomyl exports showed an upward trend, especially with regard to a particular methomyl formulation. The overall export price of methomyl rose in December 2019, and a particularly large increase was seen in the export price of methomyl TC.
China’s exported an increased volume of methomyl during December 2019. According to China Customs and ChinaChemicals Market, in December 2019, China exported 990.08 tonnes of methomyl, up by 19.52% compared to the previous year. Notably, the export volume of methomyl formulation was 365.50 tonnes, a sharp increase of 203.66% compared to the previous year. However, a decrease of 11.78% was shown in the export volume of methomyl TC compared to the previous year, with an export volume of 624.58 tonnes.
The export price of methomyl saw a general increase during December 2019, and in particular, a sharp increase was seen in the price of methomyl TC. According to China Customs and China Chemicals Market, the average export price of methomyl in December 2019 was USD 13.85/kg, up by 5.21% compared to the previous year. Specifically, the average export price of methomyl TC was USD 14.86/kg, up by 14.17% compared to the previous year. However, a methomyl formulation consisting of methomyl 20% EC, methomyl 40% SP and methomyl 90% SP; methomyl TC refers to 98% methomyl TC saw a decrease in export price; the average export price of this methomyl formulation was USD 12.12/kg, down by 13.63% compared to the previous year.
Over 30 countries import methomyl from China, with Brazil, Taiwan, and Israel as top buyers
China’s methomyl was exported to over 30 countries or regions in December 2019. 307.43 tonnes of the aforementioned methomyl formulation were exported to the top 10 destinations, accounting for 84.11% of China’s total export volume. The top 3 destinations of methomyl formulation were Peru, Egypt and Australia. In addition, methomyl TC was exported to 8 destinations in December 2019. The top 3 destinations of methomyl TC were Brazil, Taiwan and Israel, which imported a total volume of 605.85 tonnes, accounting for 97% of China’s total export volume of methomyl TC. In particular, Brazil imported 499.65 tonnes of methomyl TC from China, singlehandedly accounting for 63.99% of China’s total export volume of methomyl TC.
Methomyl operations thriving in China, with over 30 companies in the international market
Over 30 Chinese companies exported methomyl products during December 2019. The total export volume of the aforementioned methomyl formulation from the top 10 exporters was 267.77 tonnes, accounting for 73.26% of China’s total export volume of methomyl formulation. The top 3 exporters of methomyl formulation were Nanjing Sinotop Industrial and Trading Co., Ltd., Qingdao Rainbow Chemical Co., Ltd. and Ningbo Sanyi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. Furthermore, ten Chinese companies exported methomyl TC in December 2019. Among them, Shandong Huayang Technology Co., Ltd. exported the most methomyl TC with 343.90 tonnes, accounting for 55.06% of China’s total export volume of methomyl TC.
