In terms of comprehensive sales, the traditional New Year's flower products such as Phalaenopsis, large-flowered orchid, cyclamen, and rich seeds that were popular in previous years are still selling well, and new varieties and high-end products such as vermilion red, Baolian lamp, red jade beads, boutique combination potted plants, and creative potted plants are increasingly favored by consumers, and the New Year's flowers with close prices, many flowers and long flowering period are the most popular.
Consumer demand is growing year by year, driving the continuous development and growth of the flower industry, and China has become the world's largest flower producer, an important flower trading country and a flower consumer. Statistics from the China Flower Association show that China's flower planting area is about 1.5 million hectares, and there are more than 5 million flower employees. In recent years, the production of fresh cut flowers in China has increased steadily, and the main producing areas are Yunnan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, etc., especially the production of fresh cut flowers in Yunnan, the main producing area, has maintained rapid growth. At present, the types of fresh cut flowers on the market are mainly roses, carnations, lilies, bellflowers, gerberas, etc.
Zhang Yinchao, secretary-general of the China Flower Association, said that in 2022, the total scale of the national flower retail market will reach 198.68 billion yuan, the total sales of the physical flower shop retail business market will reach 90 billion yuan, and the scale of the flower e-commerce retail market will climb to 108.68 billion yuan, accounting for 54.6% of the total scale. With the increasing scale of e-commerce, China's flower circulation is characterized by channel diversification, consumption facilitation, continuous improvement of supply chain, rapid development of logistics facilities, and enhancement of supply chain data-based application scenarios.
At present, China's flower industry is in a critical stage of transformation from high-speed development to high-quality development. In May 2023, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs jointly issued the "National Flower Industry Development Plan (2022-2035)", which put forward the development strategy of promoting independent innovation in the flower seed industry and improving the supply chain system of the flower industry chain.
