Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, April 23 (Reporter Meng Jia) The Airport Authority Hong Kong announced on the 23rd that in the first quarter of this year, the airport's passenger traffic reached 12.7 million, an increase of 81.7% compared with the low base of the same period in 2023, the number of aircraft movements increased by 63.7% year-on-year to 86,210, and the cargo volume increased by 18.9% year-on-year to 1.1 million tons.
According to the data, passenger traffic in March reached 4.36 million, an increase of 56.7% year-on-year, and the number of aircraft movements was 29,840, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year. According to the AA, all categories of passenger traffic at HKIA increased, partly due to the Easter holiday that began at the end of March, with significant increases to and from Southeast Asia, Chinese mainland and Japan during the month.
Cargo volume in March increased by 15.1% year-on-year to 428,000 tonnes, with exports continuing to be the main driver, recording a 23.7% increase compared to the same month last year. Among the major trading regions, the largest increases were recorded to and from North America, Europe and the Middle East.
According to the AA, since the beginning of this year, the airport's monthly cargo throughput has recorded double-digit growth on a year-on-year basis, following the momentum of last year's cargo business. The AA will continue to innovate and explore and apply innovative approaches to airport management to further enhance operational efficiency and provide passengers with a satisfactory experience at the airport.
