Q: On the morning of November 29, Geneva time, the WTO held a special meeting of the General Council and unanimously approved Iweira's re-election as Director-General of the WTO. What is China's comment on this?
Answer:China congratulates Director-General Iwea on his re-election. This fully reflects the recognition of all WTO members of Director General Iwea's ability and effectiveness in the past few years, and also reflects the expectations of all parties for the future of the WTO.
At present, the world economy is growing slowly, unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, common challenges are increasing, and the reform of the global economic governance system urgently needs to be promoted. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization. The WTO should play a better role and make more contributions to improving global governance and addressing global challenges.
China is willing to work with Director-General Ivira to advocate inclusive economic globalization, place development at the center of the international economic and trade agenda, promote necessary WTO reforms, promote WTO rules to keep pace with the times, and enhance the authority and effectiveness of the multilateral trading system.
