Xinhua Agency, Kuala Lumpur, August 30 (Reporter Wang Yi) More than 50 experts, scholars, business and media representatives from China and Malaysia gathered in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on the 30th to conduct in-depth discussions on issues such as improving the utilization of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) rules and further releasing RCEP dividends.
The seminar was hosted by the China (Hainan) Reform and Development Research Institute and the Malaysian Asia-Pacific Belt and Road Initiative.
Chi Fulin, president of the China (Hainan) Reform and Development Research Institute, pointed out in his speech that since the official implementation of RCEP more than two years ago, dividends in multiple dimensions such as trade, investment, and regional value chains have been initially released. To further improve the utilization rate of RCEP rules, we need to give full play to the government's leading role in the comprehensive implementation of RCEP, give full play to the role of enterprises as users of RCEP rules and the intellectual support role of think tanks in promoting the development of RCEP. RCEP will play an important role in promoting regional economic integration and economic globalization.
Weng Shijie, president of the Asia-Pacific Belt and Road Initiative, said that RCEP has become a model for regional economic integration. The ASEAN region needs to coordinate and sort out rules, improve the utilization rate of rules, and further release potential space.
Weng Zhongyi, executive director of the Asia-Pacific Belt and Road Joint Strategy Committee, pointed out that the obstacles faced by ASEAN countries in maximizing the use of RCEP rules include complex rules of origin, international trade barriers, etc. It is recommended to increase education and promotion, simplify certificate of origin applications, promote infrastructure and digital development, and strengthen multi-party collaboration.
