Citigroup China welcomes a new president.
On June 2nd, The Paper learned that Citi announced on the same day the appointment of Zhang Wenjie as the President of Citi Group's China region and the President and Executive Director of Citibank (China) Co., Ltd., and the appointment will officially take effect after regulatory approval.
The resume indicates that Zhang Wenjie has 30 years of work experience in the field of corporate and institutional banking. He officially joined Citi in July 2025, based in Shanghai, and reports to Marc Luet, the President of Japan, North Asia, and Australia.
Before joining Citigroup, Zhang Wenjie served as the Executive President of Bank of America in China and the President of the Shanghai Branch.
Earlier, Zhang Wenjie had served as the Deputy Head of HSBC China and Co-Head of Global Banking in China, and also held positions at JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Crédit Agricole. Zhang Wenjie's career began in the finance and treasury department of Sinochem Group.
Zhang Wenjie holds a Master of Business Administration degree from York University's Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Economics degree from Beijing's University of International Business and Economics.

Citi began its business in the Chinese market in 1902 and in 2007 became one of the first international banks to register as a local legal entity bank. It is reported that in 2024, Citi helped Chinese companies raise about 20 billion US dollars in overseas markets, including equity and bonds, covering companies in various industries as well as financial institutions.
